You probably can get Polytarps cheaper (and faster) at Home Depot, but you won´t
(at least I didn´t) find them in white. They let you also buy only the tarp
without need to buy their set but you can get all you need at their place too.
They also sell a finished 60 sqft Sprit sail.

I don´t have any informations about their tarps or service but this price list on white canopy poly tarps looks quite interesting to me.
Tyvek, an article by Bill WallaceTyvek is a
sort of building paper, manufactured through the US-manufacturer Du Pont. It is
used in the USA as a house building paper tacked on the outside of plywood walls
to protect them from getting wet. Most houses built here in USA have plywood
walls.

Rick Bedard´s flotation noodle
A protective father adds this swimming-pool toys as extra safety-feature to the gunwales. He writes: "My 60# kid sitting next to the side. bearing down with all his weight could not put the rail under." For me this seems to be not only flotation, it also helps to keep the boat from capsizing and is some sort of fender too. Wouldn´t this be a good use for smaller racing boats?
John Boley´s plastic boat fender on an OSS dinghy
John puts the fenders as outside flotation devices to the sides of his little OSS dinghy. This probably will help a lot to keep the boat stable even with high load. Good idea.

Besides boats this site features a homebuilt "Jungle Boat Shop" made of PVC-pipes, covered with polytarp and polyethylene. The first project Don "eyball-built", is a 12 ft. skiff, his $100 Sailboat! Look at this bolt technique or the PVC drop-in tube for the mast. Now he is building "Sweet Carolin, a 20 ft. dory skiff designed from lumberyard materials. Simple is beautieful!
